& choose your role

'Jolly Tar' Sailor
Under the direct command of our Bosun, join as a 'Landsman' (new recruit) of the crew.
The history of the age of sail shows that Sailors had a variety of specific skills and specialisms. We actively encourage this amongst our members who would like to portray a sailor; to take up one of these interesting roles and develop their impression.
Here are just some of the many roles you can portray:

â—¦ 'Gunner's Mate'
◦ 'Carpenter's Mate'
◦ 'Master's Mate'
◦ 'Signal's Mate'
â—¦ Gun Crew

Royal Marine
Our red coated Royal Marines (sea soldiers) operate as a separate section and their duties differ, from our sailors.
As a new recruit Royal Marine Private; you would be under the direct command of our Royal Marine Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO). The duties include:
â—¦ Foot and Musket drill
â—¦ Guard Duty for our camp
â—¦ Musician – if you have a flair for music; take up a fife or a side drum & join the Royal Marine Band
â—¦ Take part our live firing demonstrations and battle skirmishes, alongside the cannon.
â—¦ Assist on the guns, so you also have the opportunity of being part of the gun crew, as well as carrying a musket.

Civilian
As a landing party; HMS Wales welcomes those members who would prefer to portray the civilian roles on shore.
From Lords and Ladies to the lower echelons of early 19th century Britain.
Although, our civilians do not perform a military role; they do enjoy interacting with the public and supporting our Sailors and Royal Marines.
